Floor Action:

Employment- On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 281, the Ensuring Diverse Leadership Act.

Mark-Ups:

Appropriations- On Tuesday, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense will mark up the FY2020 Defense spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered).

On Thursday, the Senate Appropriations Committee will consider the FY2020 Defense spending bill.

Hearings:

Family Support- On Tuesday, the Joint Economic Committee will hold a hearing, Making It More Affordable to Raise a Family.”

Health- On Wednesday, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing, “Improving Maternal Health: Legislation to Advance Prevention Efforts and Access to Care.”

Veterans- On Wednesday, the House Veterans Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on several bills, including H.R. 2645, the Newborn Care Improvement Act; H.R. 2681, a bill to direct the Department of Veterans Affairs to report to Congress on the availability of prosthetic items for women veterans; H.R. 2752, the VA Newborn Screening Emergency Treatment Act; H.R. 2798, the Building Supportive Networks for Women Veterans Act; H.R. 2972, a bill to improve the communications of the Department of Veterans Affairs relating to services for women veterans; H.R. 2918, the Women Veterans Health Care Accountability Act; H.R. 3224, a bill to provide increased access to Department of Veterans Affairs medical care for women veterans; H.R. 3636, the Caring for Our Women Veterans Act; H.R. 3798, the Equal Access to Contraception for Veterans Act; H.R. 3867, the Violence Against Women Veterans Act; H.R. 4096, the Improving Oversight of Women Veterans’ Care Act; and a bill to establish the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Women’s Health (as-yet-unnumbered).

H.R. 4201—Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX)/Energy and Commerce (8/20/19)—A bill to allow the secretary of Health and Human Services to make grants to states under the Maternal and Child Health Care Program for purposes of establishing Baby Box Programs.

H.R. 4215—Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN)/Energy and Commerce (8/30/19)—A bill to improve maternal health care quality, to improve the training of health care professionals to reduce or prevent discrimination in certain health care services, to improve perinatal care, and for other purposes.
