Weekly Legislative Update: June 24, 2024

Congressional Schedule: June 24-28, 2024 

Floor Action:

The House is in session. The Senate is in recess until the week of July 8.

Appropriations– This week, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 8752, the FY2025 Department of Homeland Security spending bill, which includes a provision stating that none of the funds are made available to place restrains on pregnant women in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security unless stated otherwise by a department official or medical professional.

The House is scheduled to consider H.R. 8771, the FY2025 Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs spending bill. The bill provides funding for several international assistance programs supporting women and girls.

This week, the House also is scheduled to consider H.R. 8774, the FY2025 Defense spending bill, which includes funding for the Defense Health Program and military personnel programs, among others.  

Human Trafficking– On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 7089, the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Enhancement Act.  

Mark-Ups:  

Appropriations– On Wednesday, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies will mark up the FY2025 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). The measure contains funding for programs to combat violence against women and to encourage women to enter STEM-related professions. 

On Thursday, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies will mark up the FY2025 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered).  

Also on Thursday, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies will mark up the FY2025 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). This measure contains funding for housing programs for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and to support affordable housing for women with dependents.   

On Friday, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies is scheduled to mark up the FY2025 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). This measure contains funding for the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.

Reproductive Health  
S. 4554—Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA)/(06/17/24)—A bill to express support for protecting access to reproductive health care after the Dobbs v. Jackson decision.
