Floor Action:
The House and Senate are in session.
On Wednesday, the House is expected to begin consideration of H.R. 2670, the FY2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The measure contains provisions related to military child development centers and military sexual assault.
Mark-Ups:
Appropriations- On Thursday, the Senate Appropriations Committee will mark up the FY2024 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). The measure contains funding for programs to combat violence against women and to encourage women to enter STEM-related professions.
Also on Thursday, the Senate Appropriations Committee will mark up the FY2024 Financial Services and General Government spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). The measure contains funding for women-owned business programs at the Small Business Administration.
The House Appropriations Committee is expected to consider additional spending bills this week, but the schedule had not been posted at press time.
International- On Thursday, the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations is expected to consider a number of bills, including S. Con. Res. 2, which commends the bravery, courage, and resolve of the women and men of Iran demonstrating in more than 133 cities and risking their safety to speak out against the Iranian regime’s human rights abuses.
Hearings:
Small Business- On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship will hold a hearing on a number of bills, including S. 673, the Small Business Childcare Investment Act, S. 2094, the Interagency Committee on Women’s Business Enterprise Act of 2023, and S. 2184, the Women’s Business Centers Improvement Act of 2023.
Tax Policy- On Thursday, the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight will hold a hearing, “Assessing 25 Years of the Child Tax Credit (1997-2022).”
Women’s History- On Thursday, the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands will hold a hearing on several bills, including H.R. 1318, the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Location Act.
Reproductive Health
H.R. 4475—Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL)/Ways and Means; Budget (7/06/23)—A bill to provide targeted funding for states and other eligible entities through the Social Services Block Grant program to increase the availability of menstrual products for individuals with limited access to such products.
