Floor Action: The House and Senate are in session this week.

Human Trafficking- On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 443, Enhancing Detection of Human Trafficking Act.

Hearings:

Child Protection- On Tuesday, the House Education and the Workforce Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education is scheduled to hold a hearing, “Protecting Missing and Exploited Children”.

Abortion

H.R. 7161–Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN)/Energy and Commerce (1/31/2024)–A bill to require states to report information on Medicaid payments to abortion providers.   

Child Care

H.R. 7210–Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA)/House Administration (2/1/2024)–A bill to provide for the treatment of payments for child care and other personal use services as an authorized campaign expenditure, and for other purposes.

S. 3689–Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR)/Judiciary (1/30/2024)–A bill to establish the Office to Enforce and Protect Against Child Sexual Exploitation.

H.R. 7134–Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA)/Judiciary; Education and the Workforce; Ways and Means (1/30/2024)–A bill to establish the Office to Enforce and Protect Against Child Sexual Exploitation. 

Human Trafficking

H.R. 7107–Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL)/Judiciary (1/29/2024)–A bill to expand to state, local, tribal, territorial, and educational institutional law enforcement of the availability of the federal law enforcement training to equip frontline first responders with the knowledge to recognize and properly respond to potential human trafficking situations. 

S. 3687–Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA)/Judiciary (1/30/2024)–A bill to direct the Office for Victims of Crime of the Department of Justice to implement anti-trafficking recommendations of the Government Accountability Office.

H.R. 7137–Rep. Russell Fry (R-SC)/Judiciary (1/30/2024)–A bill to provide for the vacating of certain convictions and expungement of certain arrests of victims of human trafficking. 

H.R. 7167–Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA)/Financial Services; Foreign Affairs (1/31/2024)–A bill to increase the role of the financial industry in combatting human trafficking. 

S. Res. 541–Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA)/(2/1/2024)–A resolution supporting the observation of National Trafficking and Modern Slavery Prevention Month during the period beginning on January 1, 2024, and ending on February 1, 2024, to raise awareness of, and opposition to, human trafficking and modern slavery.

Judiciary

S. 3713–Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS)/Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (1/31/2024)–A bill to prohibit the federal government from conducting, funding, approving, or otherwise supporting any research involving human fetal tissue that is obtained pursuant to an induced abortion, and to prohibit the solicitation or knowing acquisition, receipt, or acceptance of a donation of such tissue. 

Military

H.R. 7214–Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY)/Armed Services (2/1/2024)–A bill to require a report on access to maternal health care within the military health system. 

Small Business

H.R. 7105–Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-NY)/Small Business (1/29/2024)–A bill to establish requirements relating to certification of small business concerns owned and controlled by women. 

Tax Policy

H.R. 7162–Rep. Donald Beyer (D-VA)/Ways and Means; Energy and Commerce (1/31/2024)–A bill to create children’s lifetime savings accounts.
