Weekly Legislative Update: December 16, 2024

Congressional Schedule: December 16-20, 2024

Floor Action: The House and Senate are in session. 

Appropriations– This week, the House is expected to consider a continuing resolution (CR) (as-yet-unnumbered) to extend FY2025 spending to March 2025. This measure is being considered to prevent a partial government shutdown before December 20, the deadline for the current extension. 

The Senate is expected to consider the continuing resolution (CR) (as-yet-unnumbered) to extend FY2025 spending following House action.  

Child Care– This week, the House is scheduled to consider S. 1147, the Jenna Quinn Law, a bill to provide grants in support of training and education to teachers and other school employees, students, and the community about how to prevent, recognize, respond to, and report child sexual abuse among primary and secondary school students. 

Health– On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 4534, the Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act of 2024. 

Military- This week, the Senate is expected to consider H.R. 5009, the FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill includes provisions relating to military sexual assault and child care centers, as well as access to abortion for servicemembers abroad. 

Women’s History– On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider S. 4077, to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 180 Steuart Street in San Francisco, California, as the “Dianne Feinstein Post Office.”  

Mark-Ups: 

Veterans– On Tuesday, the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health is scheduled to mark up a number of bills, including H.R. 8347, the Improving Menopause Care for Veterans Act. 

Hearings: 

Judiciary– On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution and Limited Government will hold a hearing, “Revisiting the Implications of the FACE [Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances] Act: Part II.”

Judiciary

Nancy Mace (R-SC)/Transportation and Infrastructure; Judiciary (12/12/2024)A bill to prohibit certain sex offenders from entering or using the services of certain emergency shelters, to authorize the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to designate emergency shelters for such sex offenders, and for other purposes.
