Senate Passes Farm Bill

On February 4, the Senate approved, 68-32, the Agricultural Act (H.R. 2642), the conference report for the legislation known as the Farm Bill. The House approved the conference report on January 29 (see The Source, 1/31/14). With the Senate’s approval, the measure will be sent to President Obama, who is expected to sign it into law.

The bill reauthorizes several domestic and international nutrition assistance programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as the food stamp program), as well as the P.L. 480 Food for Peace and McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition programs.
