On October 23, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, S. 1766, the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Reporting (SAFER) Act of 2017, as amended. Among other provisions, the bill, sponsored by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), would increase efforts to reduce the rape kit backlog.
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bill on September 29 (see The Source, 9/29/17).
