On July 28, the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee approved, by voice vote, a bill (S. 1235) enhancing veterans’ life insurance benefits. Included in the legislation, sponsored by Chair Larry Craig (R-ID), is a provision that would define a veteran’s stillborn child as an insurable dependent for the purpose of receiving $10,000 to cover burial costs. The provision is based on a bill (S. 423) introduced by Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA).
