On June 29, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, S. Res. 516, a resolution expressing its “deep regret” upon hearing of the passing of Pat Summitt, the legendary coach of the women’s basketball team at the University of Tennessee.
Among many achievements, the resolution notes that Pat Summitt had more wins than any other basketball coach, male or female, in NCAA history. She also won a gold medal during the 1984 Summer Olympics as head coach of the United States women’s national basketball team. Coach Summitt was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in August 2011.
