On May 12, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved, by voice vote, S. 2577, the Justice for All Reauthorization Act, as amended. The measure is sponsored by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX).
Among other provisions, the bill would reauthorize funds to help state and local law enforcement agencies eliminate backlogs in DNA analyses. The bill would increase incentives for jurisdictions to continue or expand forensic sexual assault nurse examiner programs.
In addition, the bill would clarify housing provisions within the Violence Against Women Act (P.L. 113-4) and strengthen the Prison Rape Elimination Act (P.L. 108-79).
