Senate Approves National Sex Offender Database

On November 19, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, a bill (S. 2154) that would make the National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) available to the public via a web-based database. Sponsored by Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND), the NSOR database would contain the name and any known aliases of the person; the date of birth of the person; the current address of the person and any subsequent changes of that address; a physical description and current photograph of the person; the date and nature of the offense committed by the person; the date on which the person is released from prison, or placed on parole, supervised release, or probation; and any other information the Attorney General considers appropriate.
