NSF Reauthorization Cleared for President’s Signature; Includes Women in Math and Science Program

Legislation (H.R. 4664) that would reauthorize the programs under the National Science Foundation (NSF) was approved, by voice vote, by both the House and the Senate on November 14, clearing the way for the President’s signature. The bill includes a provision to give grants to institutions of higher education for programs to increase the number of women, minorities, and people with disabilities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

H.R. 4664 would renew NSF programs through FY2007 and would authorize $5.5 billion in funding for the agency in FY2003, $6.9 billion in FY2004, $7.37 billion in FY2005, $8.52 billion in FY2006, and $9.83 billion in FY2007.
