House Democrats Hold Leadership Elections

On November 18, the Democratic Caucus re-elected Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as Minority Leader for the 114th Congress. Republicans and Democrats in the Senate and House Republicans held their respective party leadership elections last week (see The Source, 11/14/14).

Reps. Donna Edwards (D-MD) and Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) were elected co-chairs of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee (DSPC).

Chief deputy whips for the upcoming Congress will include Reps. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL); Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) will chair the Organization, Study, and Review Committee.

Several additional women will serve as regionally elected or appointed members of the DPSC during the 114th Congress: Reps. Judy Chu (D-CA), Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Susan Davis (D-CA), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Lois Frankel (D-FL), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Betty McCollum (D-MN), Gwen Moore (D-WI), Terri Sewell (D-AL), and Nydia Velázquez (D-NY).

Del.-elect Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) will serve as the freshman representative of the DPSC.
