On May 22, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Quality of Life and Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies approved, by voice vote, the FY2008 Military Quality of Life and Veterans Affairs spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered).

According to a press release by Chair Chet Edwards (D-TX), the measure would allocate $109.2 billion in FY2008, an $18 billion increase over FY2007 and $4 billion above the administration’s request.

Under the bill, $21.4 billion would be allocated for military construction, family housing, and the base realignment closure process, $8.2 billion more than FY2007 and $207 million more than President Bush’s request.

Additional information will be made available after the full committee considers the bill.
