FY2008 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Spending Bill Approved by House Committee

On July 11, the House Appropriations Committee approved, by voice vote, the FY2008 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered) after adopting a manager’s amendment by Chair David Obey (D-WI), also by voice vote. A House Appropriations Subcommittee approved the measure on June 7 (see The Source, 6/8/07).

An amendment by Rep. Dave Weldon (R-FL) that would prohibit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from spending $5.5 million to administer the influenza vaccine to any child aged three or younger if the vaccine contains thimerosal, a mercury derivative, was approved by voice vote.

An article detailing committee report language affecting women and their families will be included in next week’s issue of The Source.
