On December 9, the Senate approved, 85-12, the conference report for S. 1177, the Every Student Succeeds Act. The House approved the measure on December 2 (see The Source, 12/4/15). President Obama signed the bill into law on December 10.
The bill would authorize $62.6 billion through FY2020 for education programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (P.L. 107-110), more commonly known as No Child Left Behind, and would give states and local governments increased control over academic standards, student assessments, and accountability systems.
