Congress Passes CR, Avoids Government Shutdown

On April 28, Congress approved H. J. Res. 99, a continuing resolution (CR) that funds the federal government through May 5. The current CR (P.L. 114-254) expired on April 28; passage of H. J. Res. 99 prevents a partial shutdown of the federal government. President Trump signed the measure into law the same day.

The latest CR is necessary as Congress completes negotiations on the remaining FY2017 spending bills: Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Rural Development, and Related Agencies (see The Source, 5/20/16); Defense (see The Source, 6/17/16); Financial Services and General Government (see The Source, 7/8/16); Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (see The Source, 7/15/16); Legislative Branch (see The Source, 5/20/16); State, Foreign Operations, and Related Agencies (see The Source, 7/15/16); and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (see The Source, 5/27/16).
