Congress Extends Higher Education Act

On June 27, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, a bill (S. 1704), sponsored by Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA), to extend the Higher Education Act (HEA) (P.L. 105-244) for one month so that the Senate can complete work on reauthorization of the HEA. The House passed its version of the legislation (H.R. 2559) on June 6 (see The Source, 6/8/07). The measure is expected to be signed by the president.
