On September 26, the House approved, 404-14, a continuing resolution (H. J. Res. 52) to fund government programs until November 16, 2007. The next day, the Senate approved, 94-1, the resolution. President Bush signed the bill into law on September 29.
Under the continuing resolution, government programs and the District of Columbia would be funded at FY2007 levels. The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) also would receive $5 billion. The funds would be used to continue running the program through November 16 or until SCHIP is reauthorized, whichever occurs first. SCHIP’s current authorization expires September 30, 2007. (For more information on SCHIP’s reauthorization please see The Source, 9/28/07).
