On May 18, the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee approved, by voice vote, S. 1129, the Coast Guard Reauthorization Act, as amended.
Sponsored by Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK), the bill would authorize $9.2 billion in FY2018 and $9.6 billion in FY2019 for the Coast Guard; $9.1 billion was authorized for FY2017.
Among other provisions, the measure would require that rules, policies, and memoranda that provide leave for the birth or adoption of a child permit, at the commanding officer’s discretion, officers and enlisted members to take such leave in increments and be granted flexible work schedules until such leave is exhausted.
