Breast Cancer Stamp Reauthorized by Senate Committee

On June 22, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approved, by voice vote, a bill (S. 37) to reauthorize the breast cancer stamp for two years through December 31, 2007. Funding for the stamp is set to expire at the end of this year.

In a press release announcing committee passage of the bill she sponsored, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) stated, “The Breast Cancer Research Stamp has been a complete success, helping to save lives of those stricken with breast cancer. So far this stamp has raised $45 million for breast cancer research, and if the stamp is reauthorized, it will raise millions more to help find a cure to this dreaded disease.” She added, “Using the stamp sends a clear message of hope that someday we will find a cure. But until a cure is found, it is critical that we all do our part to help fight cancer, and the Breast Cancer Research Stamp gives us that opportunity.”
