On August 3, the Senate rejected, 53-46, S. 1881, a bill to prohibit federal funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). The measure, sponsored by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), failed to garner the required 60 votes required to advance the legislation to a vote on final passage.
The legislation would prohibit federal funds from being diverted to PPFA, its affiliates, successors, clinics, or subsidiaries. The bill would not change funding levels for women’s health programs or alter existing restrictions on funding for abortions.
