On September 16, the House approved, by voice vote, the Preserving Welfare for Needs Not Weed Act (H.R. 4137), sponsored by Rep. David Reichert (R-WA).
The bill would prohibit Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) assistance through the use of electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards at stores that sell marijuana. Current law prohibits TANF recipients from using their EBT cards at casinos, liquor stores, and strip clubs.
