FY2006 Supplemental Appropriations Bill Enacted

On June 15, President Bush signed the FY2006 emergency supplemental spending bill (H.R. 4939) into law (P.L. 109-234). Also on June 15, the Senate approved, 98-1, the conference report for the FY2006 emergency supplemental spending bill. The House approved, 351-67, the conference report on June 13.

The bill provides $94.5 billion in emergency spending in FY2006, including:

  • $2.3 billion to prepare for pandemic flu;
  • $94.1 million for service member and family support programs such as counseling, child care, and support to the severely injured;
  • $1.2 billion for the Defense Health Program to provide health care for activated reservists and their families;
  • $178 million for peacekeeping operations, including $126 million to sustain the African Union Mission in Sudan; and
  • 19.8 billion in hurricane relief for residents, students, and small businesses displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
