On December 22, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, a bill (S. 119) that would set standards for the treatment of unaccompanied alien children. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the measure on April 14 (see The Source, 4/15/2005). Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) sponsored the legislation; Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) has introduced a similar bill (H.R. 1172) in the House.
