On December 9, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, a resolution (S. Res. 283) affirming the need to protect children from indecent radio and television programming. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) sponsored the resolution.
According to the resolution, “…millions of people in the United States are increasingly concerned with patently offensive television and radio programming being sent into their homes.” The resolution also notes that millions of families “are particularly concerned with the adverse impact of this programming on children.” Finally, the resolution states that it is the sense of the Senate that the Federal Communications Commission should make every reasonable and lawful effort to protect children from the degrading influences of indecent programming.
