On February 6, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tommy Thompson, presented the President’s FY2004 budget for the department to the House Ways and Means Committee. Secretary Thompson noted that the budget request “continues to support the needs of the American people by strengthening and improving Medicare, enhancing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and foster care, strengthening the Child Support Enforcement Program, and furthering the reach of the President’s New Freedom Initiative.”
