On July 12, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture approved, by voice vote, the FY2008 spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered).
The measure would provide $51.8 billion for FY2008, nearly identical to FY2007 and $1 billion more than the president’s request. Of this amount, $33 billion would be available for mandatory programs, such as food stamps.
The Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children would receive $415 million over FY2007 levels. In addition, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program would receive $150 million in FY2008.
Additional information will be available when the committee report accompanying the bill is printed.
