On July 27 the House approved, 231-191, the Farm Bill Extension Act (H.R. 2419), a bill to reauthorize the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act (P.L. 107-171). The House Agriculture Committee passed H.R. 2419 on July 19 (see, The Source, 7/20/07). Provisions of the bill are described in the June 15 edition of The Source (see The Source, 6/15/07).
During consideration of H.R. 2419, the House approved, 422-3, an amendment by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) that expresses the sense of Congress that food available to children as part of the school breakfast and lunch programs should be selected in such a manner as to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity and to maximize nutritional value.
