Congress Votes to Extend Medicaid, Abstinence Education Programs

On September 26, the House passed, by voice vote, H.R. 3668, a bill to extend for three months the Transitional Medical Assistance (TMA), Qualifying Individuals, and abstinence education programs. The Senate passed H.R. 3668, by voice vote, on September 27. The Senate approved legislation (S. 1701) to extend the TMA and abstinence education programs through September 30, 2007, on June 27; the House approved the measure on July 10 (see The Source, 7/16/07).

The Qualifying Individuals program is designed to assist Medicare recipients who have a limited income, but are not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid and need help paying for Medicare Part B (outpatient health care) premiums.
