Weekly Legislative Update: September 9, 2024

Congressional Schedule: September 9-13, 2024 

Floor Action: The House and Senate are in session. 

Appropriations This week, the House may consider a continuing resolution (CR) (as-yet-unnumbered) to extend FY2025 spending until March 2025.  

Human Trafficking- On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 7089, the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Enhancement Act.   

Mark-Up: 

Health- On Tuesday, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health will mark up a number of bills, including H.R. 6770, the INFANTS Act of 2023, a bill to ensure the safety of infant and toddler food.

Small Business 

H.R. 9486—Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM)/Small Business (09/06/24)—A bill to establish a grant program within the Small Business Administration to provide funds for eligible accelerators or eligible incubators that provide services to small business concerns owned and controlled by women and rural small business concerns. 

Tax Policy

H.R. 9479Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA)/Ways and Means (09/06/24)—A bill to establish a refundable credit for expenses incurred for in vitro fertilization.  

Violence Against Women 

H. Res. 1426—Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC)/Oversight and Accountability (09/06/24)—A resolution expressing support for the designation of September 2024 as National Campus Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Women’s History 

H. Con. Res. 127—Rep. Celeste Maloy (R-UT)/House Administration (09/03/24)—A concurrent resolution to authorize the use of Emancipation Hall in the Capitol Visitor Center for the unveiling of a statue of Martha Hughes Cannon.
