Tax Policy– This week, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 7024, Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024. Among other provisions, the bill expands the child tax credit.
Women’s History– On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 3947, a bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 859 North State Road 21 in Melrose, Florida, as the ‘‘Pamela Jane Rock Post Office Building’’; H.R. 1060, a bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 1663 East Date Place in San Bernardino, California, as the “Dr. Margaret B. Hill Post Office Building”; and H.R. 3728, a bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 25 Dorchester Avenue, Room 1, in Boston, Massachusetts, as the “Caroline Chang Post Office.”
Hearings:
Child Protection– On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on the Judiciary will hold a hearing to examine Big Tech and the online child sexual exploitation crisis.
Veterans– On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs will hold a hearing to examine Vet Centers, focusing on supporting the mental health needs of service members, veterans and their families.
On Tuesday, the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee will hold a hearing, “The One Percent: Supporting America’s Surviving Military Family Community,” to discuss policies implemented by the Department of Veterans Affairs for dependency and indemnity for surviving spouse recipients.

Human Trafficking
H.R. 7089–Rep. John James (R-MI)/Foreign Affairs (1/25/2024)–A bill to authorize the Diplomatic Security Services of the Department of State to investigate allegations of violations of conduct constituting offenses under chapter 7 of title 18, United States Code, which prohibits trafficking with respect to peonage, slavery, and forced labor.

S. 3641–Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH)/Armed Services (1/23/2024)–A bill to require the Secretary of Defense to establish a pilot program for evidence-based perinatal mental health prevention for pregnant and postpartum members of the Armed Forces and dependents.

Todd Young (R-IN)/Considered and agreed to (1/23/2024)–A continuing resolution agreeing to recognize and support the efforts of the New Heights Bid Committee to bring the 2027 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Women’s World Cup competition to the United States and Mexico.

H. Con. Res. 85–Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA)/House Administration (1/25/2024)–A continuing resolution that authorizes the use of Emancipation Hall in the Capitol Visitor Center for a ceremony to present the Congressional Gold Medal to the women in the United States who joined the workforce during World War II, providing the aircraft, vehicles, weaponry, ammunition, and other material to win the war and who were referred to as “Rosie the Riveter”, in recognition of their contributions to the United States and the inspiration they have provided to ensuing generations.

H.R. 6914–Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA)/Education and the Workforce–A bill to require each institution of higher education that participates in federal student aid programs to provide certain information to prospective and enrolled students on the rights and resources for students who are pregnant or may become pregnant while enrolled in school.
H.R. 7063–Rep. Greg Landsman (D-OH)/Energy and Commerce (1/22/2024)–A bill to prohibit federal funds from being made available to any pregnancy center that diverts people from accessing comprehensive and timely medical care from licensed medical professionals.
