Weekly Legislative Update: December 5, 2022

Congressional Schedule: December 5-9, 2022

Floor Action:

The House and Senate are in session this week. 

Child Care- On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider S. 4834, the PROTECT Our Children Act of 2022, a bill to reauthorize the National Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program. 

Health- On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider S. 198, the Data Mapping to Save Moms’ Lives Act.

Military- On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to consider the Senate amendment to H.R. 7776, the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Among many other provisions, the bill addresses military child development centers, military sexual assault, and Department of Defense recruiting efforts for women. 

Small Business- On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 8844, the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Improvement Act of 2022. STEP provides grants to states to increase the number of exporting small businesses or proposals that assist women-owned, and other socially or economically disadvantaged, small businesses.

Mark-Ups:

International- On Tuesday, the House Foreign Affairs Committee will mark up several bills, including H.R. 9243, Providing Appropriate Recognition and Treatment Needed to Enhance Relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-Australia Counter Trafficking (ASEAN-ACT). The ASEAN-ACT responds to human trafficking in the southeastern hemisphere. 

On Wednesday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will mark up several bills, including S. Con. Res. 47, a resolution commending the bravery, courage, and resolve of the women and men of Iran demonstrating in more than 80 cities and risking their safety to speak out against the Iranian regime’s human rights abuses. The resolution is in reference to the protests in Iran after the killing of Mahsa Amini. 

Hearings:

Employment- On Tuesday, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship and Capital Markets will hold a hearing, “E, S, G and W: Examining Private Sector Disclosure of Workforce Management, Investment, and Diversity Data.”
