Weekly Legislative Update: June 14, 2021

CONGRESSIONAL SCHEDULE: JUNE 14-18, 2021

Floor Action:

The Senate is in session this week. 

Human Trafficking– On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 2332, the Debt Bondage Repair Act, which would prevent credit reporting agencies from furnishing adverse reports for consumers who are victims of trafficking.

Veterans– On Tuesday, the House also will consider H.R. 239, the Equal Access to Contraception for Veterans Act.

 Hearings:

Abortion- On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution will hold a hearing, “Protecting Roe: Why We Need the Women’s Health Protection Act.”  

Family Support- On Thursday, the Senate Aging Committee will hold a hearing, “21st Century Caregiving: Supporting Workers, Family Caregivers, Seniors and People with Disabilities.”  

Small Business and Entrepreneurship- On Tuesday, the House Committee on Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access will hold a hearing, “Hearings Reversing the Decline in Women Entrepreneurship: Opportunities for Rebuilding the Economy.” 

Social Security/Retirement– On Tuesday, the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security will host a hearing, “Equity in Social Security: In Their own Words.”


BILLS INTRODUCED: June 7-11, 2021

Abortion 

S. 1975—Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT)/Judiciary (6/8/21)—A bill to protect a person’s ability to determine whether to continue or end a pregnancy, and to protect a health care provider’s ability to provide abortion services.

H.R. 3797—Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN)/Education Labor (6/8/21)—A bill to authorize states to expand the uses of the child care stabilization funds to include support to improve and increase the availability of safe child care facilities, and for other purposes.

H.R. 3791—Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA)/Education and Labor; Oversight and Reform; House Administration (6/8/21)—A bill to repeal certain limits on leave for a married individuals employed by the same employer. 

Equal Pay

S. 1978—Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV)/Commerce, Science, and Transportation (6/8/21)—A bill to prohibit the use of funds for the 2026 World Cup unless the United States Soccer Federation provides equitable pay to the members of the United States Women’s National Team and the United States Men’s National Team.

Family Support

S. 1991—Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD)/ Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs (6/9/21)—A bill to authorize a new type of housing choice voucher to help achieve the goals of ending homelessness among families with children, increasing housing opportunities, and improving life outcomes of poor children.

Health

S. 1977—Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. (D-PA)/Finance (6/8/21)—A bill to provide Medicaid coverage for all pregnant and postpartum women, to provide coverage under the Medicaid program for services provided by doulas, midwives, and lactation consultants, and for other purposes.

H. Res. 469—Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA)/Energy and Commerce (6/11/21)—A resolution expressing support for the designation of June 2021 as “Migraine and Headache Awareness Month.”

International 

S. 2003—Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)/Foreign Relations (6/10/21)—A bill to authorize appropriations for the Department of State for fiscal years 2021 through 2023 to provide assistance to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras through bilateral compacts to increase protection of women and children in their homes and communities and reduce female homicides, domestic violence, and sexual assault.

H.R. 3850—Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI)/Foreign Affairs (6/11/21) — A bill to require the secretary of State to submit a report on the status of women and girls in Afghanistan, and for other purposes.

S. 1967—Sen. Krysten Sinema (D-AZ)/Armed Services (6/8/21)—A bill to establish a program to carry out minor military construction projects to construct child development centers and to provide education and treatment services for infant and early childhood mental health, and for other purposes.
