On December 5, the House passed, 409-0, H.R. 3317, the Stop Abusive Female Exploitation (SAFE) Act, sponsored by Rep. Dave Trott (R-MI). Among other provisions, the bill would increase the penalty for female genital mutilation from five to 15 years. The House Judiciary Committee agreed to the bill on November 2 (see The Source, 11/3/17).
