On November 15, the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved, by voice vote, several bills en bloc, including H.R. 1415, the End Neglected Tropical Diseases Act, and H. Con. Res. 90, which condemns the ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya, an ethnic minority in Myanmar.

Sponsored by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), the bill would “facilitate effective research on and treatment of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs),” including diseases such as female genital schistosomiasis, which can increase the risk for poor pregnancy outcomes and susceptibility to HIV/AIDS in women.
H. Con. Res. 90
The measure, sponsored by Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-NY), would condemn the ethnic cleansing and human rights attacks against the Rohingya, including the rape of women and girls. The House Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific held a hearing addressing violence against the Rohingya on September 27 (see The Source, 9/29/17).
