On October 26, the House passed, 216-212, H. Con. Res. 71, the Senate-amended FY2018 budget resolution. The Senate passed the resolution on October 19 (see The Source, 10/20/17).
The measure would provide $3.13 trillion in mandatory and discretionary funding for FY2018. This total includes $549.1 billion in discretionary funding for defense programs and $516 billion in discretionary funding for nondefense programs, which complies with spending caps established by the Budget Control Act (P.L. 112-25). In addition, the bill would include $76.6 billion for overseas contingency operations.
In addition to establishing a blueprint for federal spending in FY2018, the resolution contains instructions the House and Senate will use to draft tax reform legislation.
