This week, the House approved several bills to protect children from abuse and exploitation: H.R. 1862, the Global Child Protection Act; H.R. 1842, the Strengthening Children’s Safety Act; H.R. 1188, the Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act; H.R. 883, the Targeting Child Predators Act; H.R. 695, the Child Protection Improvements Act; H.R. 1809, the Juvenile Justice Reform Act; H.R. 1808, the Improving Support for Missing and Exploited Children Act; H.R. 1973, the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse Act; and H.R. 1761, the Protecting Against Child Exploitation Act.
On May 22, the House approved H.R. 1862 by a vote of 372-30 and H.R. 1842 by a vote of 371-30. The House Judiciary Committee approved the Global Child Protection Act and the Strengthening Children’s Safety Act on April 5 (see The Source, 4/7/17).
The House also passed, by voice vote, H.R. 1188, H.R. 883, and H.R. 695. The Judiciary Committee approved the Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act, the Targeting Child Predators Act, and the Child Protection Improvements Act on March 22 (see The Source, 3/24/17).
On May 23, the House passed, by voice vote, H.R. 1809 and H.R. 1808. The House Education and the Workforce Committee approved both bills on April 4 (see The Source, 4/7/17).
The House approved, 415-3, H.R. 1973, sponsored by Reps. Susan Brooks (R-IN) and Lois Frankel (D-FL), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues. H.R. 1761 was approved by a vote of 368-51 on the same day. The Judiciary Committee passed the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and the Protecting Against Child Exploitation Act on May 18 and May 3, respectively (see The Source, 5/19/17, and 5/5/17).
