House Committee Reviews Social Media Policies of Military Services

On March 21, the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel held a hearing, “Social Media Policies of the Military Services.” In light of recent online harassment of female service members on the Marines United Facebook page, the hearing discussed several concerns regarding social media policies, such as adequate training on appropriate use of social media and resources available to victims.

The following witnesses testified:

  • Mark A. Brilakis, deputy commandant, Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Unites States Marine Corps;
  • Robert P. Burke, chief, Naval Personnel, United States Navy;
  • Jason Evans, director, Military Personnel Management, United States Army;
  • Gina M. Grosso, deputy chief of staff, Manpower, Personnel, and Services, United States Air Force; and
  • Anthony M. Kurta, deputy assistant secretary of Defense, Military Personnel and Readiness, Office of the Secretary of Defense.

The Senate Armed Services Committee held a similar hearing on March 14 (see The Source, 3/17/17).
