On September 20, H.R. 670, the Special Needs Trust Fairness and Medicaid Improvement Act, sponsored by Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA), was passed by the House by a vote of 383-22.
The legislation would extend the Medicaid Special Needs Trust exception to non-elderly individuals with disabilities. Within the bill are provisions that would make it possible for women to continue receiving treatment for tobacco cessation up to one year after giving birth to a child. Currently, women only receive tobacco cessation treatment while pregnant.
The Energy and Commerce Committee cleared the measure on September 9, 2016.
