On March 16, the House Budget Committee approved, 20-16, the FY2017 budget resolution (as-yet-unnumbered).
The legislation would cap federal spending at $1.07 trillion in FY2017, which includes $574 billion for defense-related spending and $519 billion for nondefense-related spending. The cap maintains the discretionary spending level established by the Bipartisan Budget Act (P.L. 114-74).
According to the committee plan and summary, the budget resolution would repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148) in its entirety, which would produce an estimated $2 trillion in savings over ten years.
The measure would allocate $39.78 billion in FY2017 budget authority for International Affairs and $23.809 billion in budget authority for Agriculture spending. In addition, Education, Training, Employment, and Social Services would receive $78.795 billion in budget authority, while Income Security would receive $497.523 billion in FY2017. Veterans Benefits and Services would receive $174.766 billion in budget authority, while Administration of Justice would receive $73.693 billion.
Additional details of the budget resolution will be made available once the committee releases its report.
