On January 6, the House approved, 240-181, the Senate amendments to H.R. 3762, the Restoring American’s Health Care Freedom Reconciliation Act. The Senate approved the legislation on December 3 (see The Source, 12/4/15). President Obama vetoed the measure on January 8.
Among several provisions, the legislation seeks to cut the federal deficit by $78.1 billion by repealing key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148), as well as the Prevention and Public Health Fund. In addition, the bill would eliminate for one year funding for Planned Parenthood Federation of America and allocate $235 million to community health centers to cover the cost of providing health care not related to abortions.
