On October 28, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, S. Res. 293, a resolution recognizing National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Sponsored by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA), the resolution notes that “women aged 18 to 34 typically experience the highest rates of intimate partner violence” and “most female victims of intimate partner violence have been victimized by the same offender previously.” Additionally, the measure finds that “households in which children are abused or neglected are likely to have a higher rate of intimate partner violence.”
Among other provisions, the resolution expresses the sense of the Senate that Congress should “continue to raise awareness of domestic violence in the United States” and “pledge continued support for programs designed to assist survivors, hold perpetrators accountable, and bring an end to domestic violence.”
